DigitalOcean is a general-purpose cloud. GPU Droplets sit alongside Kubernetes, managed databases, object storage and an app platform, and every Droplet bundles 5TiB of scratch NVMe and 10,000 to 15,000 GiB of transfer. If you need that platform, it is a reasonable place to put a GPU.
Teams look elsewhere for three specific reasons. The NVIDIA catalog is thin – four cards on demand, with nothing between the RTX 6000 Ada at $1.57 and the H100 at $4.41 and nothing in the RTX 40 or 50 series. The overlapping cards are expensive, with on-demand HGX H100 at $4.41/GPU/hr. And two billing behaviors cost money: a 5-minute minimum, and charges that continue on a powered-off Droplet until you destroy it.

What to check before you switch
Whether you actually use the rest of the cloud. If your database, storage and app are on DigitalOcean, moving only the GPU adds a network hop and a vendor. If they are not, you are paying a platform premium for a component.
The bundled scratch disk. 5TiB of local NVMe per GPU Droplet is genuinely valuable for data-heavy jobs, and most alternatives here do not match it. Price that in before assuming a lower hourly rate is cheaper.
Billing minimums and idle charges. DigitalOcean’s 5-minute minimum and powered-off billing are the two things that surprise people. Check the equivalent behavior wherever you go.
Storage units. DigitalOcean quotes GiB. Runpod bills per GB. 1 GiB = 1.074 GB. Convert before comparing.
AMD. If you are on MI325X, MI350X or MI355X, your options narrow sharply. Very few providers carry them.
1. Runpod
The strongest option if the accelerator is the workload rather than a component of an application.
Runpod publishes 21 NVIDIA cards from the RTX A5000 up to the B300, plus AMD MI300X at $2.39/hr on Secure Cloud, verified 31 August 2026. That is five times DigitalOcean’s on-demand NVIDIA catalog, and it fills the entire range DigitalOcean leaves empty between the RTX 6000 Ada and the H100.
Pods bill per second with no minimum, and a terminated Pod stops costing anything. A stopped Pod with a network volume attached incurs storage charges only, from $0.05/GB/mo. There are no ingress or egress fees at all, rather than a bundled allowance you can exceed. Serverless runs inference that scales to zero with sub-200ms cold starts via FlashBoot. Clusters provision multi-node self-serve up to 64 GPUs, against DigitalOcean routing Bare Metal GPUs through sales.
Community Cloud sits below Secure Cloud, starting at {{gpu:rtx-a5000:community}}/hr for an RTX A5000. Runpod is SOC 2 Type II certified and HIPAA and GDPR compliant, with reports, BAAs and DPAs available through the Runpod Trust Center. Coverage can vary by region and deployment model, so check requirements for your workload.
Where it stops: no managed databases, no Kubernetes, no object storage, no CDN, and only one AMD card. If the platform around the GPU is why you were on DigitalOcean, Runpod does not replace it.
Best for: teams whose bottleneck is hardware choice, billing granularity or egress cost.

2. Crusoe
The closest thing here to a full cloud that is still GPU-first.
On-demand rates verified 31 August 2026: H200 141GB HGX $4.29, H100 80GB HGX $3.90, A100 80GB SXM $2.30, A100 80GB PCIe $2.00, L40S $1.50, AMD MI300X $3.45. GB200 NVL72, B200 and MI355X are contact-sales. Managed Kubernetes is $0.10 per cluster-hour, general-purpose CPU is $0.04 per vCPU-hour, and there are no ingress or egress charges. Billing is per hour or per second.
Storage is billed per GiB per month: persistent disk $0.08, shared disk $0.07, object storage $0.06.
Where it stops: the top of the catalog is contact-sales, and there is nothing in the consumer or RTX range.
Best for: teams who want managed Kubernetes beside their GPUs without moving to a hyperscaler.
3. Verda, formerly DataCrunch
The European option, and the one with a real spot tier. datacrunch.io now redirects to verda.com.
On-demand rates verified 31 August 2026: H100 SXM5 $3.25, H200 SXM5 $4.00, B200 SXM6 $6.11, B300 SXM6 $7.50, A100 SXM4 80GB $1.79, RTX PRO 6000 $1.89, L40S $1.37, RTX 6000 Ada $1.04, RTX A6000 $0.61. Spot runs at roughly half the on-demand rate on every card. Reserved discounts reach 25% at two years. SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliant, an NVIDIA Preferred Partner, with instant clusters and serverless containers alongside instances.
Storage is $0.20 per GiB per month, which is high, and notably worse than DigitalOcean’s bundled scratch disk for data-heavy work.
Where it stops: no AMD, and the storage pricing is expensive.
Best for: European data residency, and anyone who wants spot pricing published rather than negotiated.
4. Lambda
A GPU cloud with a straightforward on-demand rate card and self-serve clusters.
On-demand rates per GPU per hour, verified 18 August 2026: B200 SXM6 180GB $6.69, H100 SXM 80GB $3.99, A100 SXM 80GB $2.79, A100 SXM 40GB $1.99, Tesla V100 16GB $0.79. 1-Click Clusters on B200 run from two weeks to a year, at $9.86 per GPU at 16 GPUs down to $8.87 at 256+. Prices exclude sales tax, VAT and GST.
Where it stops: the published catalog is narrow and skews to data center SXM parts. Nothing in the RTX range.
Best for: H100 and A100 work at a published rate, and short-term cluster reservations without a long contract.
5. Northflank
The alternative if what you valued about DigitalOcean was the deployment platform rather than the GPU.
Git-based builds, managed databases, cron jobs, pipelines and preview environments, plus bring your own cloud into your own AWS, GCP or Azure account. Five GPUs, verified 9 September 2026: L4 24GB $0.80, A100 40GB $1.42, A100 80GB $1.76, H100 80GB $2.74, RTX PRO 6000 96GB $3.00.
The GPU rate excludes CPU and memory, billed at $0.01667 per vCPU-hour and $0.00833 per GB-hour on top. Egress is $0.06/GB and disk is $0.15/GB/month. There is a free Sandbox tier.
Where it stops: five GPUs, no multi-node training product, and an egress charge DigitalOcean partly absorbs through its transfer allowance.
Best for: teams who want the platform and can live with a narrow catalog, or who need to deploy inside their own cloud account.
6. CloudRift
Per-second billing with no minimum, and low rates on the mid-range cards DigitalOcean does not carry.
Verified 20 August 2026: RTX PRO 6000 $1.29, RTX PRO 6000 Max-Q $1.55, A100 SXM4 80GB $1.05, RTX 5090 $0.65, L40S $0.63, RTX 4090 $0.39, MI350X $3.65. Reserved tiers selectable in-console at 5%, 10% and 15% off. No egress, ingress or API-call charges, and local storage is included in the hourly rate.
Check their VRAM column before quoting. The H100 row lists 48GB rather than 80GB, and the RTX 4090 and RTX PRO 6000 rows list 96GB. Their FAQ says H100 and H200 are not orderable in the console and require contacting them.
Where it stops: the H100 and H200 are reserved-only, so the cards most DigitalOcean users are comparing against are not self-serve.
Best for: RTX PRO 6000, RTX 5090 and L40S workloads at rates well below DigitalOcean’s.
